Working with Untwisted Multi-Thread Yarns
It’s a common concern many of you have, and I understand why it can feel a bit daunting!
I’ve been working with this type of yarn for nearly 10 years, and I have to admit: it can be tricky at first, especially if you aren’t used to the texture. The key is finding the right tools for your project.
Sometimes "wrong" tools can be the key
Small Hooks: A crochet hook that is too small won't catch all the strands, leading to frustrating snags.
Slippery Needles: If your needles are too slick or unfamiliar, you might lose control of the threads.
Blunt Tips: Needles that aren't pointy enough make it much harder to dive into all those individual strands at once.
Let me share a few tips for you
Sometimes the yarn might be wound a bit "wonky," leading to uneven tension. Don't worry—there is always a solution, and the final effect is absolutely worth the effort!
The Bead Trick: Try threading a small bead onto your yarn before you start to keep all the strands grouped together as you work.
Respect the Yarn Cake: Treat your yarn cake with care. The less you squish or mess with it, the more likely it is to "cooperate" with you.
Find Your "Friends": Take the time to experiment and find your favorite hooks and needles. Having tools you trust makes all the difference.
I hope my post will help you make a decision and try this type of yarn cakes. The smooth gradient you'll get is worth it ☺️
